Q. What program would you recommend for me to use to make my site?
A. We use Macromedia Dreamweaver MX for the HTML. It is a very capable and powerful web editing program. For the graphics, we use Adobe LiveMotion for the Flash graphics and Adobe Photoshop for the pictures.
Q. What email software should I use?
A. We use several email programs. On MacOS X, we use Apple's Mail program and Microsoft Entourage. On MacOS 9, we use Microsoft Outlook Express or Microsoft Entourage. On Windows 98, 2000, or XP, we use Microsoft Outlook Express or Outlook.
Q. What if I want to use a different mail program?
A. As long as you email program can use POP or IMAP to check your mail, it will work. As for sending, it needs to use SMTP; however, we have a restriction on the mail server that requires you either authenticate before sending mail, or check your email before sending mail.
Q. I got an error message sending an email. "473 username@domain.com relaying prohibited. You should authenticate first" What is this?
A. You need to either authenticate before sending mail, or check your email before sending mail. There is a restriction on the mail server to prevent abuse by people creating spam.
Q. How do I upload my website to the webserver?
A. We provide you access using a protocol called WebDAV. It's better than FTP and is built into Macromedia Dreamweaver or Adobe GoLive. Windows 98, 2000, and XP also have support via a feature known as Web Folders.
Q. What is the my username and password to upload my files?
A. Please contact us via email and we'll let you know.
Q. What kind of server scripting do you provide?
A. We provide PHP 4.3.x support, as well as optional mod_perl (Perl 5) and optional JSP (Tomcat 4) support. If you need support for other languages, contact us; however, we do not support ASP.
Q. I have files that are .asp files. Can I convert them?
A. Yes, there are programs that convert from ASP to PHP. ASP2PHP is one of them. Please test the code it produces, before going live...
Q. Do you provide a counter or a banner exchange system? A shopping cart?
A. While we do not give you the code for them, there are many, many open source or free counters, bulletin boards, carts, banner exchanges that are capable of running on the server. A site we commonly use is The PHP Resource Index.
Q. Do you provide support iCal calendars?
A. Yes! Please send us an email about this and we will more than glad to give you access to our demo site.
Q. I need to setup a database. Can you help?
A. We can provide you a MySQL database or a PostgreSQL database.
Q. What about FileMaker?
A. We have setup FileMaker in the past for Web Database access; however, you need FileMaker Unlmited to make proper use of FileMaker on the web. If this is something you need, you really should talk to us.
